My basement is moist. I painted the floor with epoxy paint a few weeks ago (like used on garage floors), and I went down there Friday during the thunderstorm. I put a rug on the floor to sit on. Today, I cognizance that the rug has a smell to it due

are you noticing your floors being wet in the basement after thunderstorms or concentrated rains.the paint you put down on the floor has nothing to do with it.you can try a dehumidifier but i think i would check your basement real good.check the walls

my dehumidifier runs, but doesnt bump off any water from the air. please help. my basement stinks and is getting very damp.

If its not removing any heavy water, most likely the freon has leaked out of it or the compressor is done. If its either of those, its not worth the cost to get it repaired, unless its under warranty.

Would a portable dehumidifier work efficiently sitting on a shelve 6 feet off the floor in a basement room ?

I take a fancy to to have it there rather than sitting on the floor.
There is no floor drain in this room, so putting on the shelf will allow me to feed a debilitate hose out through a hole in the window frame to the outside (window shut of coarse)

You will be defeated efficiency. Humid air is denser than arid air and therefore will sink. At 6 feet your dehumidifier will be working harder trying to pan the humid air up. That costs in efficiency and unit life.
