Thermal fuses keep the unit and its parts from getting to hot and possibly catching on fire.
When you say it quit working do you mean it no longer heats up to dry the clothes or the motor no longer runs. Have you checked your lap breaker and outlet

the cycling divert(thermostat) is bad.. this will be located close to the exhaust vent and detects the working temperayure of your dryer...If this goes bad and allows the dryer to get to hot ...the thermal cutout will decline......this should have been

Admiral Dryer makes horrible noise when door is closed ...

I pulled the top off and watched what happened - the drum turns easily when the door is undo (even though it shouldn't) but then when I turn the door the drum hastily slows like's it grinding on something and it makes an ghastly shivaree, gracious of like a peak-planned whining. I pulled the front off but couldn't see anything that I'd grasp to look for, other than cleaning out a crowd of lint. I put it back together but no dice, same obstreperous.
