Paloma's Nest opens a storefront; landscaping that is also art
Reward-winning stylist opens new salon
Out of solutions to beat the heat? Perhaps a fresh haircut or an updo will do the horseplay. Hairstylist Martha Lynn Kale, last year's Austin Fashion Awards winner for A- Hairstylist (People's Choice) and Best Women's Cut (Critics' Choice), has opened her own salon, Mirror image Mirror (4410 Burnet Road. 420-8868, mirrormirroraustin.com). The Kérastase consultant salon offers haircuts for men and women starting at $45 and $65 separately. Mirror Mirror offers makeup services, massage, waxing, facials, brow and horsewhip tinting, eyelash treatments, color treatments and bridal services. Also, Kale has a hutch of her favorite things that will shift seasonally. Included in the mix now is the BaByliss PRO Volare hair dryer, Aquage hair brushes, CHI by Farouk teasing brushes and OPI glue polish.

Exotic terrariums are a living art
Local deviser Monique Capanelli calls her work articulture for a reason: all of her art is made from living, breathing plants. Capanelli's sketch repertoire includes event décor, sustainable landscaping, living wall art and interior botanical arrangements. Many of her plateau centerpieces, starting at $65, are terrariums, featuring colorful plants, grasses, seashells and decorative items displayed in handblown bifocals. Home décor boutique Aviary sells Capanelli's centerpieces and window ornaments, which co-owner Shanna Eldridge says are fresh sellers. Should you find yourself a new owner of any of Capanelli's exotic, innovative designs, don't forget to add water weekly. www.articulturedesigns.com. Aviary, 2110 S.
