Stan Hywet Hall pays tribute to 'Plants of Industry'
Gala PRODUCTS EDITORWhen people think of plant-based products and foods, items such as cereal, linseed oil, charcoal and on the spot oatmeal come to mind.
But how about crayons? Or glue? Hair gel? Or even fuel?
"Plants of Industry," on air in the Corbin Conservatory at Stan Hywet Hall, offers a broad look at the use and influence of plants and their uses in firm and commerce. The display concentrates on plants that have had an impact on Akron and Ohio, and includes an "Industrial Garden," in the Conservatory courtyard.
There are several divers displays set up around the conservatory, each highlighting a different plant. Those visiting can find out information on plants such as broomcorn, wood, oil palms, soybeans, corn, oats, latex plants and flax, and the materials made from those plants. Examples of the plants and the products that can be made from those plants can be seen.
Plants hand-me-down in industry and of economic importance will be grown in the garden, with details and information inside the Conservatory, said Donna Spiegler, who handles media relations at Stan Hywet Lecture-hall.
