We are getting a new heating system this week - accepted from oil heat to gas. Our house is very dry, so we'd like to install a whole house humidifier. Which of the following options would you recommend for a couple with moderate home improvement skills
Commend that you tell the contractor to install a by-pass type humidifier. A by-pass type humidifier has no reservoir (tank) nor does it have a drum wick that requires an charged motor. Humidifiers that have water tanks develop slime in them - not healthy

any guarantee that comes with the a/c unit will be voided if you (dad) install the humidifier.

What is being installed ?? Supportive of air or a hot water sys.???? If it is warm air you can buy a Aprilaire drum humidifier from Home Depot or Lowes ( prefer Lowes) for about $120.00. The instructions are very stated. You'll need a screw driver, tin snips

If your prospering to have the contractor install the new furnace, have them sell you and install the humidifer also.
It might be a little more, but if there is warranty issue that comes up several months from now they can't use the absolve

BUY it from the HVAC society and have them install it professionally. YOU then get the warranties and professional installation. They will size the humidifier for the whole house.

Whole House Humidifier?

Would it be workable to install a whole house humidifier even if you have radiant heat flooring. I've read that the humidifier system works through your already existing central heating and cooling vents, but what if you didn't have any? Could you fit
you could place vents just for that purpose although it is probably more expense than it is worth, because then you would have to have a blower or something to circulate the moist air through the vents? I take it you dont have a seperate system for air
