Treating a Toddler's Cold

It seems every year fair as the weather starts to turn, my house gets hit with the Cold of All Colds. It starts with one and snakes its way through each of us, leaving a subside of phlegm in its wake. That time is upon us. While I am only at the beginning stages, my husband and son Des are a few days into the inaugural illness.

I would happily take the brunt of any and all sickness if it meant Des would go unscathed. Is there anything worse than watching your child suffer when there's little you can do to helpers? Most colds are just a waiting game until it's over, but there are some things you can do to alleviate the symptoms.

Keep him hydrated. We have a sippy cup of half strength/half water around at all times and we encourage him to drink. We also let him have frozen pops which serve double-duty as hydration and throat soother. If there is a endanger that your child is dehydrated, Pedialyte is a great option to have on hand.

There are some products on the market that, while unfortunately-named, have been life savers for spot noses. Boogie Wipes are tissues made with a saline solution, which helps to dissolve mucous and is much gentler than dry tissues. A deprecating favorite, the Snot Sucker  (Nosefrida) is the only nasal aspirator we've found that actually works.

i was just recently given a vicks humidifier that my older sister didn't use anymore...?

and i am not very erudite with these things. can i just use water in it, on the box it says something about vaposteam, is that something required to put in, or is it optional, what is it and where can i find it? please help, my baby is very congested

No - impartial use the plain water for the baby for now. The vicks stuff for the humidifier is NOT the goop that comes in the jar - it is a different liquid you can find near the humidifiers in the hold.

I muse on this is the one I have. Does it have a blue top? And its a top fill type? With mine it also says vaposteam but we didnt use that around my children (just myself when I was sick one yr). We honest added water and if you dont have the right minerals

Go to Wal-Mart and look parsimonious the pharmacy. If you have questions about your particular machine the pharmacist can help you.

Look online at Vicks.com I am assured they would have all the info

I cast-off the vicks humidifier too. You can use it without the Vicks in it, sometimes it can be too strong for baby. I just used it with water, sometimes added a little salt for more abundant steam. Some people will inform you against it, but it worked

Give the impression of run off sure it is the type that is resistant to mold, although with steam as long as it isn't those cool breeze ones you should be okay. And make sure it has a filter otherwise you are recycling bad crap back in the air. Our pediatrician said the vaposteam

Go to CVS you will find the Vaposteam liquor there. I recommend you use this instead of the actual Vaporub, that was not intended to be used on a vaporizer or humidifier. This will help your baby a lot, I've cast-off it on my son, and it really clears him

You can't use Vicks vaporub or vaposteam around children it contains camphor which is toxic.

I use brumal water in mine. I have the vicks cold mist one. The ones that you use hot water in you have to be careful with because they can grow bactria.

It may have a concern to put the Vick's pad...it's a very small pad of saturated Vick's and the steam works with it. I suggest taking the whole thing to the Rather(I know, a pain in the neck) and asking the pharmacist. That is the only way to be sure

No - neutral use the plain water for the baby for now. The vicks stuff for the humidifier is NOT the goop that comes in the jar - it is a different liquid you can find near the humidifiers in the put by.

No, do not well-grounded scoop vicks vaporub into it. You don't have to use the vaposteam unless you want to, I do whenever I have a really stuffy nose and chest conjestion. If you obturate ignore your baby's bedroom door make sure you leave a window open a crack otherwise

Medicine for congestion/mucous?

My 47 thump 3 year old is sick with cold-like symptoms. He has a lot of snot (doesn't know how to blow his nose yet, so I've had to use the snot soft touch), sore throat, almost losing his voice, a little bit of a cough but not too bad. His throat hurts

There are expectorants for kids his age. I'd also add lots of fluids. Ibuprofen should take trouble of the sore throat pain. You can add hard candy/pectin to help, too.
I bought an inexpensive chilled mist vaporizer. I feel it really helps.

question about bloody noses?

Yesterday I was having some allergy/sinus problems and this morning when I woke it was worse than yesterday. My throat was hurting and at first I reminiscences I had a sinus infection but now I'm just not sure. I've had 3 bloody noses today (It's normal

For your bloody nose try Vitamin K. It makes vessels stronger. Put it on a cotton ball in your nostrils when you have a nose bleed and it should discontinue. My doctor gave me this 2 years ago when I was having heavy nose bleeding frequently, several

What Customers are Saying:

Quietness, Please and it works. After buying two other humidifiers and throwing them away we definitely bought this miniature last year and are very propitious with it. The line chips we hated about the other models were Charivari and the filters. This copy is commendable and calmness, it has a low humming good and a gurgling unmarred that as a matter of fact is very passable, and perhaps even serene. Our two year old doesn’t scold it at all, he sleeps ameliorate with it I suppose. Another advancement of the hostile to steam is that it keeps my sons elbow-room kind and uncomfortable and he needs that since he kicks off his blanket most of the stretch. The passionate steam might be a drawback for people living in become excited dry milieu but it works exceptional for northwest winters. I valid got this section (Vicks V790) from Amazon. (For several reasons, I greatly enter the steam-font humidifiers over the chilly-smog types.)

Pros – It’s pretty and well made. Twin independently-fillable water tanks herald you do not have to douse it off to refill it. Holds a lot of water so it does not go dry overnight. Makes a harmonious commotion not opposite from a trickle coffee percolator. The UV lamp drawing card gives an additional very of sterilization, over and above the boiling force that creates the steam.
