Steam mops harness the power of steam to leave bare floors - a quick, elbow grease alternative to the humble mop and bucket. Here's where to buy the Black & Decker Autoselect FSM1600 for less this week.

While we've not fully tested any of these steam-powered gadgets in the Which? lab, the together has got its hands on a couple of steam mops to see how well they worked.

One of those was the Black & Decker Autoselect FSM1600 steam mop, which promises to take 'less on one occasion and less work' than cleaning floors in the traditional way. It has three settings - one for stone and marble, one for wood and laminate floors and another for tiles and vinyls.

Our tester found their tiled make fall dried very quickly after being steam cleaned, but - as with a conventional mop -stubborn stains were tricky to shift. What's the best vacuum/steam mop for hardwood floors and laminate?

My current in is all hardwood and laminate and I am looking at the Shark steam mop and the Han brand. Anyone have advice? What I really want is one that vacuums at the same while as mopping.

Try the Dyson Ball Vacuum. It rotates easy as pie as you turn it, it's got nice suction, and it adjusts to the type of floor it vacuums on. Carpet, Linoleum, Wood, Tile, Marble. No dilemma.

A canister paradigm vacuum cleaner is excellent for cleaning hardwood floors, stairs, carpets, drapes and ceilings. Most are less clobber on large, wall-to-wall carpeted areas. Most come with easy to use attachments and long hoses to reach every corner

Steam mops are not competent for hardwood or laminate. I would suggest the Bona hardwood floor mop instead.

I read the best mops for cleaning laminate flooring are Ocedar or Libman Mops. Where can i buy one from?

Hi, I fair-minded use warm water and vinegar 1 cup to a gallon. It works well and I prefer something that is natural. I just use a mop that is well wrung out so it is exactly damp. You do not want to wet floors. I sometimes buff up with a towel attached
