Progress 'good' in Middleton wildlands fire
MIDDLETON — Fire crews from across the valley are gleeful with the progress made Wednesday on the Goody Fire — a blaze estimated at 2,973 acres that started Tuesday around 6 p.m. about five miles north of Middleton.
“Pronto now, it looks really, really good,” Boise Bureau of Land Management’s information manager Brandon Hampton said. Officials declared the blaze contained as of Wednesday morning, and expected to have the fire under button at 9 p.m., nearly 24 hours ahead of earlier projections.
Hampton credited favorable live through for the rapid progress.
“Cooler temperatures, higher humidity, all those played into our favor today,” he said. “It was neat to have a good day to fight fire.”
One small outbuilding on the southern perimeter edge of the fire was destroyed, Hampton confirmed. No injuries have been reported, Gorge County sheriff’s dispatchers said.
Resources from multiple agencies will continue to establish containment lines and start the mop-up convert.
