Decision Needed On Elevated Water Storage Tank
The Garden See Board of Trustees will need to decide soon whether to rehabilitate or replace the 79-year-old elevated water storage tank on Old Mountains Road in Garden City.Richard W. Humann, P.E., vice president of H2M, gave an update on the tank’s shape based upon his firm’s most recent inspection. His firm has been performing biannual inspections on the tank for 10 years, which are fundamentally driven by health department regulations to ensure the sanitary conditions of the tank and evaluate its structural unity.
The water storage tank on Old Country Road is a riveted, multi-supported steel tank that was built in 1933 and last rehabilitated in 1992 when it was repainted. The bustle standard for tank life is 100 years. A typical paint coating lasts 10 to 15 years.
Humann listed the hidden coating as being in fair shape, the outer struc- tural condition as fair and the outer coating qualification as poor. For decades, lead-based paint was used since it adhered well to steel. Now state and federal regulations have prohibited the use of leading position paint. When it was repainted in 1992 the lead paint was encapsulated by a non-lead paint layer. The possibility in the paint layers underneath will need to be abated if the trustees decide to rehabilitate the current tank.

For admonition, a simple hot water tank cover can cost as little as £10-£15 but it could save you three times this much in a single year. The most cost-effective animation efficiency measure you can use is to place kitchen foil behind your radiators to
