Green "T": Dry Cleaning Dangers

Perks, they are everywhere.

Extraordinary up for a credit card, discounts abound. Buy a pair of shoes, get a second half off. You can even join online groups and get regular perks.  These  are all good perks.

But I am here to tell you about a bad perk, I mean PERC.  Perchloroethylene.

As far as chemicals go, this is a bad one (the EPA has classified it as a beneficent cancer causing chemical; say that three times fast!) and it is lurking in your closet. PERC is the main chemical reach-me-down in traditional dry cleaning that makes your clothes look all dandy. But every time you open the door to grab a unorthodox outfit, out puffs more PERC right into the air you are breathing.

Not so fresh.

And those plastic bags your clothes come back to you in, ditch them integrity away! They seal in the PERC and are made of their very own yuckiness. Better yet, if you need to dry clean your skirts, purchase a few cotton garment bags to chuck off with your pile of cleaning.  That way you will be eliminating a need for all those plastic, throw away bags and letting your clothes air out as well. To further cut down on this toxic chemical making its way into your make clear, hang your newly, cleaned clothing on your porch or in the garage when you first pick them up. The off gassing will happen out in the candid instead of in the confines of your closet.

About this book
"The city is education," this book proclaims. "The city is education-and the architecture of education rarely has much to do with the building of schools. The city is a schoolhouse, and its ground floor is both bulletin board and library. The graffiti of the city are its window displays announcing events; they should reveal its people to themselves, telling about what they're doing and why and where they're doing it. Everything we do-if described, made clear, and made observable-is education: the 'Show and Tell,' the city itself.... It is a classroom without walls, an open university for people of all ages offering a boundless curriculum with unlimited expertise. If we can make our urban environment comprehensible and observable, we will have created classrooms with endless windows on the world." The book resembles the phone company's Yellow Pages, but the intent is not to "let your fingers do the walking"-the book is meant to lead you out into the environment, to put you into contact with...
