NES group wins 'Green Binnie' award
NEWBURY — The Newbury Initial School Recycling Committee was recently awarded MassRecycle's 2011 Bronze award in the K-12 Faction category. The award was given at a ceremony yesterday, America Recycles Day, at the National Heritage Museum in Lexington.
Every year, MassRecycle recognizes a chosen group of individuals, businesses, municipalities and organizations for their leadership and innovation in promoting recycling and waste reduction by presenting them with the "Leafy Binnie" Recycling Award. Winners are selected through a peer review process.
Newbury city recycling coordinator Ron Toleos nominated Recycling Committee members and NES parents Tammy Cotter, Sally Milliken and Jen Wright for the bestow, "These dedicated leaders have led a transformation in recycling at the school. I am so impressed with their work and their impact on recycling in Newbury. The next start from Newbury will surely be recyclers, not to mention that now parents have been telling committee members that 'we didn't recycle before, but now my descendant makes me recycle.'"
