Steve Everbach: Extreme Makeover—Break Room Edition
I talked with Vince Burt, elder vice president with Jones Lang LaSalle’s project and development services team, for some tips on how this can be achieved. Here’s what he had to say:Diet and Easy
1. Paint. To enliven a neutral break space, introduce bolder, bright colors.
2. Flooring. The ritual thought was that vinyl composition tile was easy to keep clean. But consider carpet in dining areas and porcelain or terrazzo in wet kitchens for a less institutional have a hunch.
3. Wall Coverings. Artwork can set the tone of a space; and, in single-company areas, it can strengthen the enterprise branding with employees.
4. Recycling. Place basket systems by doors and trash cans.
5. Work Flow. This might seem like joint sense, but keep break rooms organized (for example, put ice, water and cups near one another). It will streamline tasks and makes more operative use of space.
