If you do not have a position which catches fluff and you can get into it to take out the surplus then this problem wont go away.

At the top of my washing machine I have this build up of discomfiting blackish grayish stuff. I have tried millions of times to clean it, but it is really sticky. So is there something safe to put in the washing machine, like lime away or something
Half a liquor of white vinegar during a full cycle on full load. Then fill again with cold water and place the other half of a bottle of the vinegar in the machine and let lush over night. Empty in the morning and the marks will have all gone.
