Green and Simple: Upgrading to More Energy Efficient Appliances
A match up of weeks ago our washing machine died. Yes, there were warning signs, but we were in denial. At the same time, whenever we used our dryer, it squealed like a pig that had at best stepped on a nail. Purchasing new appliances does not mesh with my idea of summer fun, especially when funds have already been committed. But, since it is assiduously to enjoy summer fun while surrounded by mountains of dirty laundry, one can only stay in denial for so long.
As one who strives to have a more complimentary planetary impact, I believe in repairing before replacing. Our dryer had already been repaired twice and I was pleased to learn that this restoration could also be done for a reasonable fee.
The washer, on the other hand, was not worth repairing. Between the cost of the major part that needed to be replaced and the charge of labor, the service person said we would be pretty close to the cost of a new machine. So, we were off to shop for a new washer.
I naively believed that we would be clever to find the corresponding washer to go with the newly repaired dryer. I did not expect an exact match, but something that looked like it was part of the same m. I could not even find one that looked like a distant cousin!
