Nanny's washer made laundry time seem like an adventure

I rescind my grandmother's washing machine. It had huge steel legs, with lots of intriguing machinery exposed. There were belts event from one pulley to another, around a motor pulley, then around a couple idler wheels. One of the idler wheels was connected to a lever Nanny pushed or pulled to draw or disengage the multiple mechanisms.

That washing machine held up a huge tub, with a spigot designed to swivel out over or away from the tub. Two vade-mecum valves controlled the HOT or COLD water. Nanny established the level and temperature of the water in the tub by turning the valves on or off.

In one predication, the lever drove the agitator to scrub the clothes clean. In another position the lever drove the quiz to empty the tub. In yet a third position, the lever rotated two rollers that wrung out the water from whichever cycle Nanny adamant she was engaged in completing, wash or rinse.

When Nanny opened the correct valve then selected the drag pump to run, we kids sat low to watch the belt twirl and the pump spin rapidly, producing a heavy gooooshing crash that reverberated through the entire basement.

Sounds like a rubber beat got too hot & broke. Similar problem with mine & my handy brother was able to replace it. My local washing machine repairman only charges about $40 for concern calls & takes it off the cost of the repair.

The dominance is probably gone. You should call in a service man to see if it is worth fixing or to buy a new washing machine. Hand washing is difficult especially for towels and ungraceful jeans etc. I would go to a laundromat for heavy items, and hand wash

its your cestus remove the back and put it back on if its in one piece if not and has snapped you need a new belt

I would try to empty your machine of scum (by way of the flat door on the front) before you resort to hand washing!
