Riverside Elementary water cleared for use

CRESTVIEW — Offensive, discolored water at Riverside Elementary School prompted school officials to shut off the water and dispense bottled water to students and crew on Wednesday and Thursday.

Maintenance staffers with the Okaloosa County School District and Crestview’s Illustrious Works Department traced the problem to three of the school’s seven hot water heaters that had high levels of residue buildup.

“All (of the hot water heaters) were flushed and the water was retested, and as of today there are no complications with the water system,” Rodney Nobles, the manner district’s deputy superintendent, said Friday.

Okaloosa County Health Jurisdiction Director Dr. Karen Chapman confirmed that the water tested clean and was given an “all clear.”

The water was back on when students and shaft returned to school Friday.

Some parents’ fears that the water was contaminated with algae were unfounded, discipline Principal Marline Van Dyke said in an email.

It wouldn't injure sometimes particles in the water settle out in the tank if you got a drain handy go for it but you don't need to do it often unless you have a well or nasty water, but It won't hurt anything and may better.just open the tap and let the

unswerving go ahead and drain it,it cant hurt anything, and it does build up a lot of calcium and gravel, lime, and all kinds of garbage,if you do it on a regular schedule it will last a lot longer, bout once a year, depending on how hard the water is where you live

yes you should strain it 2-4 times per year. I would run about 5-10 gal of water out. What happens is lime builds up on the bottom of the tank and causes problems later on. If you flush it once in a while it won't bod up as bad.

I suppose you are to do this about twice a year. I don't because every time I did the water heater would start leaking. I our area the water heater only last about five years at the most anyway.

yes at the least watercourse it once a year. If you live where the water is hard twice a year. Please rescerch the proper way so you do not get hurt of mess up the elements

I was looking at this myself recently.

Technically yes, to get rid of the precipitate and prolong the life of the tank. The page I've referenced goes on to suggest every 4 months! However in all the homes I've owned & rented I've never

Don't certain if it matters but its electric.

First, and I cannot put under strain this enough, find the breaker to it, and TURN IT OFF. Not because you are in danger, but because you can burn out the heating coils very easily.

It's better if you allow your tank to ice for several

Okay to flush 13 year old hot water heater?

Is it okay to flush my 13 year old hot water heater, if I don't conscious if its ever been done before?

Moved in to the house six months ago. I'd like to keep the home well maintained, but I don't want to cause unforeseen wreck.

At that age, you are superior to let it be.

Besides, most of what is in there is caked by now, and very little would flush out.
