Keep electric bills low this summer
Summertime in Significant Florida is glorious. But when the temperature starts creeping past 90 degrees toward triple digits, spending any amount of facing can be downright unbearable. As the temperature rises, so often does the electricity bill ... and that can be pretty unbearable as well.
Oviedo district Johnny Hilbert is no stranger to higher electricity costs. He said he always notices an increase in his power bill over the summer months -- an proliferation of more than $100 a month.
"In the summertime, it has topped $600," Hilbert said. "For a couple of months before the summer, it was below $500."
His 3,400-generous-foot home also serves as a daycare run by his wife, Josephine. With kids in the house all day, Hilbert said it can be a challenge to keep the business cool.
"The doors are opened and closed a lot. If you have kids, you know that a favorite thing they like to do is to expand and close the door," he said. "You can just feel the cold air rushing out of the house."
