How do I shut off the water heater? What is the typical cost to replace one?

Our water heater flooded our garage. I am assuming it needs replacing. I bottle up off the water to the house and the pilot on the water heater, but how do I shut off the water going to the water heater? What is the typical cost to replace a water heater?
Your water heater should have intern off valve where the water lines enter it. It is possible you do not have a shutoff valve. I would guess a plumber will charge about $200.00 labor to instal a new one. Are you sure it is the water heater leaking and

on top of there should be a valve connected by a line to the water main or water softener if you have one that is the supply to the water heater turn that off
cost depends on the size of the water heater and type gas is cheaper than tense

Many older tanks that were installed dint have the cutoffs installed (it was cheaper). Suspicion the incoming water line(from the tank) as far back as possible and you might be lucky, find a cutoff down the line. If you cannot locate one than you are right

I have a 1400 sq contain and am looking at replacing my old water heater and would like to get any advice on:
1. How much it would typically cost?
2. Where should I get it?
3. any other tips
You can get a electrifying water heater at home depot under 200.00...I just had mine re[placed and the plumber charged 400.00 to take the old one out, haul it away with him,and replace with a new one..Our descendants is on piers and 4 feet off the ground

My water heater was not working well so I removed the panels to substantiate the t-stats. I found that the lower tstat had a hole burnt right through it . ( so I can tell this is or at least is part of my problem). Do I insufficiency to replace the wire
no all you have to do is up the wire a bit to remove the oxides...unless the insulation is burned
Its not a bad Idea to check your elements at this underline(if its electric)
check for continuity between the terminals with an ohm meter...you

When we purchased this dwelling it came with a rental hot water heater from Charge Dynamism firm. The company is 11 years old and I am certainly unshakable the Unaffected gas water heater is 11 years old also. I have been reading on the net about all of the vigour efficiant products etc. Can with no beating about the bush forcefulness be asked from me to replace this with a newer more verve eff. & up to appointment ideal of watere heater. Do they have a gauge law that pertains to the replacement of the water heaters that they tear out to customers at around $ 12.00 per month?
